February 6, 2022. I posted the below thoughts on Instagram in response to outrageous statements I was seeing online about Western leaders. I felt context had been lost and the conversation needed a reorientation.
Edit: One week after this, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act, which prohibited certain types of public gatherings and enabled banks to freeze the accounts of individuals linked to anti-vaccine protests. A federal judge subsequently ruled the use of the Emergencies Act as unreasonable and violated the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
